About Kempe
Headquartered on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado, The Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect has been recognized as a world leader in child abuse treatment and prevention programs for over forty years.
Directed by some of the nation’s leading experts, The Kempe Center hosts innovative programs that treat abused children (from birth to age 18), train professionals and research treatment methods to help and heal the most children.

In FY11, Kempe:
- Provided direct services for 781 children and directly served 175 parents and caregivers.
- Trained and educated 8,298 professionals with 39,312 “people training hours” provided. These were direct contact presentations at workshops, university classes, job sites, community locations, and national and international conferences.
- Kempe provided direct services to children and/or trained professionals from 47 Colorado counties, 30 additional states, Washington, D.C. and four other countries including Canada, South Korea, Iceland and China.
In addition, in FY11 Kempe:
- Volunteers’ commitment provided 2,592 hours of service.
- Increased the number of media stories by 340% over FY10.

In FY10, Kempe:
- Provided direct services for 796 children in 40 Colorado counties.
- Trained and educated 6,336 individuals with over 22,288 “people training hours” provided. These were direct contact presentations at workshops, university classes, job sites, community locations, and national and international conferences.
- Increased direct services to children by 13.5% over FY09.
- Child Protection Team treated 494 children – more than a 22% increase from 401 in FY09.
In addition, in FY10 Kempe:
- Volunteers’ commitment provided 2,603 hours of service.
- Provided information and resources to nearly 300,000 web visitors at kempe.org.
In FY09, Kempe:
- Provided direct services for 701 children in 41 Colorado counties.
- Trained, educated or consulted with 4,609 professionals in 26 Colorado counties, 13 additional states, and at two national and two international conferences.
- Served approximately 220 adult caregivers with significant counseling or support.
- Child Protection Team treated 404 children –more than a 10% increase from FY08.
In addition, in FY09 Kempe:
- Responded to over 750 calls and emails to help and refer parents, neighbors, teachers and professionals with their urgent needs and questions regarding child abuse and neglect.
- Volunteers’ commitment provided over 2,600 hours of service.
- Provided information and resources to over 150,000 web visitors at kempe.org.
