Kempe Therapeutic Preschool

A place where children can finally begin to believe in themselves.

Our preschool is a safe place to grow and be hopeful, so children can look forward to the rest of their lives and know they have the power to succeed.

Engaging these children in preschool is the first step to a better life.  The Kempe Therapeutic Preschool is a highly specialized treatment program that helps severely emotionally disturbed 3-6 year old children who have been abused and neglected. The preschool provides a full range of mental health services including psychological testing, psychiatric diagnostic workups, and assessment of family functioning. Once admitted, children receive individual play therapy at least twice a week and family therapy once a week. They participate in a “therapeutic milieu” in the classroom designed to decrease problem behavior, increase social skills, and improve academic performance so they can move on to regular preschools, Head Start Programs, or elementary schools.
